Winter 2015

Hi!  It's January 2016 already and the year has begun to pick up pace.  After establishing my dream job in a serene environment, I'm hoping to set a few new goals for the year.

First off, the man who first opened my eyes to small-aircraft aviation is returning to Canada to run the Toronto waterfront marathon in October.  I hope to be able to team up and run the half-marathon. Afterwards, I'd catch a ride with him westward across Canada to arrive back into Sioux Lookout.  Sounds like fun!

Originally my plan for 2016 was to cycle train for a 2017 bicycle tour across the country.  The issue with the plan is the timing.  I'd need about two months to comfortably make the commute.  If I had more seniority at work I would be able to apply for extended leave, but having less than a year in at the new job means I'll have to postpone those dreams for now.

I also plan to do some excellent hiking this summer, so stay tuned for photos.  For now, I'll cover the mild winter that Sioux Lookout has been experiencing thus far.

Abram Lake sunrises are spectacular!

A snowy morning at the airport doesn't slow down everyone.

Merry Christmas!

I've been practicing building winter shelters this season, hoping to be able to comfortably stay the night outdoors.  Until just recently, the weather had been very warm leading into January, but now with overnight temperatures dropping below -20°C, I'll have to make sure my little home is air tight through the night.

Until next time..
